Morgan Rasmussen, 26, Cedar Rapids
Owner @ PINC Paw
Bark once if you like fashion. Bark twice if you love our planet. Now, thanks to Morgan Rasmussen and her company, PINC Paw, dogs in the Corridor can love the planet and wear it too. She’s created a line of eco-chic dog collars and leashes and made a mission—and a business—out of reducing carbon paw prints one pooch at a time.
So what is it that you make?
At PINC Paw we create dog collars and leashes out of natural and organic materials. Our eco-chic accessories for pets are a unique mix of vibrant contemporary patterns with an urban sophistication. We have big plans to expand our product line to include eco-friendly dog bedding, harnesses and hemp chew toys!
If you had only three words to describe what you do what would they be?
How about 3 phrases? Give back to philanthropic causes, reduce waste through our practices and create fashionable, quality dog products.
What inspires you?
So much of my inspiration comes from my significant other Tyler, who is also a local business owner. He’s always told me to love what I do and do what I love. And my naughty Wheaten Terrier, Reagan. His vet bills inspire me to continue to grow my company.
Why did you want to create a green product?
I believe that finding ways to be socially and environmentally responsible is just good business practice for all companies, especially start-ups. We can all do our part by looking for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint — or paw print. Being able to create a fashionable product with organically grown fibers and fabrics is truly a great feeling.
What’s the best part about being a crafty/creative person?
The best part simply put is that it’s my vision and ingenuity. I create products that I love and hope others share the same appreciation.
Do you remember the first craft project you ever tried?
Not really, but I’m sure whatever it was, it involved Popsicle sticks, Elmer’s glue, pipe cleaners and lots of hot pink glitter.
When you become rich and famous for your work, then what will you do?
Part of me wants to reside on a warm, tropical island surrounded by chocolate coconut Donutland doughnuts. But honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever stop creating or thinking about new business ventures. There’s no greater feeling than that of building something from the ground up and taking those risks.
