CEDAR RAPIDS — Dave Carey opened Fieldhouse Cedar Rapids two-and-a-half years ago at 1140 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, as a family-friendly restaurant and sports bar.

Bar Manager Sarah Akers stresses that although the Fieldhouse is a sports bar, with multiple televisions always turned to the big game, kids eat free with purchase of an adult meal on both Tuesdays and Sundays. The family-friendly atmosphere makes it an appealing spot for youth sports teams after a game.

There is plenty on the menu for the adult palate as well. All the food is made in-house, including the hand-cut hand-pounded tenderloins nearly as big as a plate, prepared every morning.

Along with its tenderloins, the Fieldhouse is known for its Angus burgers, bacon jack chicken sandwich, buffalo chicken sandwich, broasted chicken, thin crust pizzas and steaks made to order, Akers says.

A lunch special is offered daily for $7.99. Weeknight specials include Monday’s wing night, taco Tuesdays, half-price pizza on Wednesday, Thursday ribs and meatloaf on Friday.

Other menu items include appetizers like nachos ($6.99), fried clams ($6.99), onion rings ($6.99), fried pickles ($6.99), cheesy bacon fries ($7.25) and toasted ravioli ($6.99).

Homemade soup is $2.99 for a cup or $3.99 for a bowl. Salads range from $9.79 for a Cobb to $12.49 for a sesame seared tuna salad or salmon salad.

Burgers come with crinkle fries and range from $8 to $9. Choices include the bourbon BBQ burger, mushroom Swiss, bacon bleu, bacon cheese, gaucho and the patty melt burger.

Specialty sandwiches also come with fries and include the chicken BLT ($8.99), Reuben ($8.99), Iowa tenderloin ($8.99), BBQ pulled pork ($8.49), steak sandwich ($8.99) and French dip ($7.99).

Wraps with fries run $8 to $9 and include the Caesar, turkey club, chicken BLT and buffalo chicken.

Entrees and pastas are served after 5 p.m. and include linguine Alfredo ($12.99), shrimp scampi ($12.99), apple bourbon glazed bone-in Iowa chop ($14.50), bourbon salmon ($12.99), seared tuna ($14.50), 14-ounce rib eye ($15.99) and an 8-ounce sirloin ($11.99) or filet ($16.99).

Pizzas — 9-inch ($10.99) or 14-inch ($15.99) — include the meat combo, bacon cheeseburger, veggie, margherita, Hawaiian, BBQ chicken, buffalo chicken and Philly cheesesteak.

Broasted chicken is served after 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and all weekend. Dinners range from $6.49 to $8.99.

The restaurant opens and the kitchen closes at 11 p.m. Catering is available.

A large bar is at the center of the restaurant, with 36 domestic and craft beers on tap.

Call ahead orders to (319) 378-6447. Carey also owns the Fieldhouse locations in Cedar Rapids, 411 First St. SE and 2730 Edgewood Rd. SW; North Liberty, 245 Beaver Kreek Center; and Iowa City, 118 S. Dubuque St. Menus vary by location.
