West Music events featured for Wanna Play? Music Week

West Music in Coralville has several events planned in conjunction wiht Wanna Play? Music Week sponsored by the National Association of Music Merchants. All events throughout the week will be family friendly and open to musicians of all ages and abilities. Events will be free and take place at West Music Coralville, 1212 Fifth St. Participants in any activity will also receive 15% off print music and books all week long.

Schedule of Events

May 7: Music Monday - Hosted annually by NAMM, Music Monday is used to help spread the message about the importance of music programs for school-aged children and the overall benefits of making music for people of all ages. Any instrumentalist or vocalist is invited to join West Music associates and Conservatory students to learn and record the song "I Wanna Play", written by recording artists Aaron Tippin and Thea Tippin. The more musicians, the better - show support for music and music education. This event will take place on the West Music Coralville Main Floor starting at 5 p.m. Participants can join by stopping by West Music Coralville and can register to participate at www.wannaplaymusic.com/programs/music-monday-usa.

May 8: Guitar Jam - All area guitar players are invited to a Guitar Jam in the West Music Recital Hall. Bring your guitar and show up between 6 to 8 p.m. to play with fellow guitar players. West Music Weekend Warriors and Rock Steady band members will also participate. The Weekend Warrior program for adults and Rock Steady program for teens is an eight-week jam session ending with a gig in a local club or restaurant. Registration for both of these groups will also be available at the jam. West Music provides all of the equipment, the rehearsal space, a coach and other band members.

May 9: Kids' Drumming - Join West Music Early Childhood Music and Movement Educators for group drumming fun. Participants will play drumming games, learn rhythms, illustrate stories with percussion instruments and more. Instruments will be provided. Ages 4-5 will drum from 1 to 2 p.m. and ages 6-10 will drum from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

May 10: Players' Night Out - Any instrumentalist or vocalist is invited to participate in Players' Night Out. This is a great opportunity for musicians to perform for each other in a casual environment. Receive pointers about how to successfully perform, the etiquette of performing for others as well as being a supportive audience member. This event is limited to 12 musicians - sign up early to participate. Players' Night Out begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

May 11: Musical Moments Demonstrations - Come to West Music during store hours to participate in demonstrations taking place throughout the day of Musical Moments, a fun new group piano class offered at West Music. Participants will learn a song on their first try. The classes are structured for kids ages 7 to 10, teens ages 11 to 18, and adults with different materials and lessons for each age group. Demonstrations will take place on the piano floor and in the Recital Hall.
