Friday

Wine Tasting in our Garden Center – Lisa Frett, the wine guru at the Edgewood Road Hy Vee, invites you to come and enjoy our beautiful garden center and sip on the latest wines for summer. Light appetizers will be served. Must be 21 & over to sample the wine. No registration required. Just stop by the register in the garden center to pay and get your wine glass.

B.J. Novak – Novak is an actor, writer, comedian, best known for his contributions to NBC’s Emmy Award winning comedy “The Office.” In addition to starring as Ryan, the temp-turned-boss-turned-temp, Novak is also co-executive producer for the series and has written many of the show’s most memorable episodes.

“Better Than Something” – “Better Than Something” is a feature documentary about the controversial and prolific garage rock icon Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr, better known to the world as Jay Reatard. This intimate portrait, captured just months before his untimely passing, brings us incredibly close to Jay’s complicated punk-rock world in Memphis, Tennessee.

Saturday

Pella Tulip Festival – If tulips are your main interest, a visit to Pella should be planned within the next few weeks. As you may have guessed, the spring warmth has persuaded the colors to arrive early this year. If your camera has been anxiously waiting for Pella tulip photo opts, early April is the time to pack that camera and journey to Pella!

Maifest – Celebrate spring in the historic village of Amana with Maifest, parade at 10 am, kids activities, Taste of Amana, Touch of Europe Food Fair, Maipole dancing, German folk music, wine walk, craft demonstrations.

CR Beer Nuts Big Brew Day – The Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Homebrew Club will be celebrating Big Brew day at Benz. Some members will demonstrate the process of brewing beer at home. It’s a great chance for those of you interested in homebrewing to watch a live demo and have any questions answered by some experienced and enthusiastic homebrewers.

Peter Mayer – Minnesota singer-songwriter Peter Mayer, with his unique and passionate percussive guitar style and lyrics of conscience — will perform Saturday, May 5 at 8 pm at The Englert Theatre in Iowa City.

Sunday

“Alice In Wonderland” – An original adaptation by local author Jason Alberty of the classic story by Lewis Carroll! Alice is worried that she doesn’t have much of an imagination … until her friend Lewis Carroll convinces her otherwise, by sending her down the rabbit hole and into a magical world we all know as Alice’s Wonderland.

Auditions for “Hairspray” and “On Golden Pond” – Theatre Cedar Rapids will hold auditions for both the musical “Hairspray” and the play “On Golden Pond” Sunday and Monday, May 6 & 7. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. both nights at TCR’s home in the Iowa Theater, 102 Third St. SE. Callbacks for the two shows will be held on later nights. Leslie Charipar is directing “Hairspray,” while Richard Barker is directing “On Golden Pond.”
