There are 74 fun things to do in the next couple of days before the big three-day weekend. If you are looking to get out and do something, here are a few of our favorites.

Tuesday

8th Avenue Farmers’ Market – Hosted by Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation. Fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, honey, eggs, baked goods and crafts are available. Items must be grown or produced by vendor.

The Beards of Comedy – Andy Sandford (TBS), Joe Zimmerman (Rooftop Comedy’s Golden Shingle Award nominee), TJ Young (Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival’s Stand Out Stand Up winner) and Dave Stone (Adult Swim’s Squidbillies) deliver an original brand of humor that’s deeply rooted in stand-up and lightly blended with avant-garde elements of music, sketch and improv.

Wednesday

French Wine Tasting – We continue to expand our selection of French wines and we have some very special and exciting new arrivals to share. You will not want to miss this opportunity to sample our new favorites along with a variety of great French cheeses.

“Deaf Poets Society” – Actress Nancy Margulies will perform her one-woman show “Deaf Poets Society” at Coe College’s Hickok Hall. Tickets are $10 each and benefit the Cedar Rapids Public Library.

Daniel and the Lion – Hailing from the secluded town of Baraboo, WI, the members of Daniel and the Lion, a nationally touring folk-rock duo, write in tandem. Daniel Pingrey and Jimmie Linville bring music and lyrics together to create warm, honest songs.

Thursday

Sandglass Theater – Sandglass Theater has pushed the boundaries of puppet theater for 30 years. Founded by German immigrants Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass, the Vermont-based company mingles puppets and human performers to moving and whimsical effect.

Ramona & The Swimsuits + Pennyhawk + Neon and Nude – Ramona and the Swimsuits uses catchy choruses and tiny outfits to capture the hearts of the universe. Recently off of their national tour supporting Leslie and the Lys, they have sharpened their craft of the perfectly imperfect.
