It’s a mystery at Iowa Summer Rep this season

IOWA CITY — The first production of this year’s Iowa Summer Rep Mystery Season, “What the Butler Saw,” opens at 8 p.m. Thursday at the David Thayer Theatre in the Iowa Theatre Building, 200 N. Riverside Dr.

Other performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday as well as June 24, 26, 27 and July 1, 3, 8, 10 and 11 and 6 p.m. on July 4.

Note: The play is not appropriate for younger audiences.

Dr. Prentice, a psychiatrist, attempts to seduce attractive prospective secretary Geraldine. When the doctor’s wife interrupts the “interview,” sparks fly.

At the same time, Mrs. Prentice is being seduced by young Nicholas, whom she has promised the job. Tickets are $26 for adults, $23 for seniors and $13 for youth age 17 and under and $5 for UI students. They can be purchased at (319) 335-1160 or the Hancher Box Office, or at the University of Iowa Theatre Building ticket window one hour before each performance.

Other upcoming performances include “The Woman in Black,” “Sherlock’s Last Case,” as well as the opera Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore.”
