The future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk will be crawling with Klingons, troubled by Tribbles and otherwise beaming with Trekkies this weekend for TrekFest XXVIII.
An Earth astronaut will be in their midst, as well. NASA’s Kjell N. Lindgren, a doctor just like his reel-life counterpart Bones McCoy, will participate in a question and answer session at 8 p.m. Friday at Riverside Elementary School, Sky Watch with amateur astronomers outside the school from 9:30 to 11 p.m., then ride in Saturday’s TrekFest parade at 10 a.m. and sign autographs from noon to 2 p.m. in Hall Park.
Other out-of-this-world festivities includes music, “Star Trek” themed contests, a demolition derby, Bill Riley Talent Show, Federation Games, “Star Trek” episodes, food and fireworks. We’re ready to blast off!
The basics
