Cheesesteaks & Chili recently opened on Blairs Ferry Road. The carry-out only business serves Philly cheesesteaks and chili.

Lycan and Jen Davis started selling their Philly cheesesteaks at the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market in 2009. After two years at the Farmers Market, Lycan continued Cheesesteaks & Chili as a catering operation. Now, Cheesesteaks & Chili has a carryout storefront at 288 Blairsferry Road near Stuff Etc. and Lagoon Car Wash.

The restaurant offers cheese steak sandwiches the way Philadelphians expect  — steak and onions topped with Swiss American (they will substitute Cheese Whiz upon request) and served on a hoagie. Variations include a chunky cheese steak with chunks of seasoned sirloin, barbecue, pizza philly and a chicken philly. For vegetarians, there is a veggie friendly option as well.

Speaking to the chili half of the restaurant’s name is their signature chili – a spicy combo of tomatoes, beans, jalapenos, salsa and hamburger. It’s award-winning, they say. There are also five soups including an Italian chicken vegetable, cheese, broccoli cheese, chicken noodle and a soup they call throw-in with seasoned vegetables, rice and chorizo.

Prices range from $3.50 for the soups and chili to $6 to $7 for sandwhiches. Sides (such as chips and a salad) are $1 to $3.

Cheesesteaks & Chili is carry out only. For more information, go to their website or call (319) 377-7707.
