File Photo - The Sweet Corn Festival is this weekend in Cedar Rapids.

August in Iowa wouldn’t be the same without the St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival. And what better way to celebrate Iowa’s favorite harvest than the 36th annual event in Cedar Rapids.

The event features carnival rides and games for the kids, bingo, plenty of food (an ear of corn is just 50 cents and volunteers are expected to serve an impressive 14 tons of sweet corn this year), a beer tent and live music.

A Kernel’s 10K and 5K Run, 5K Competitive Race Walk and 5K Family Fun Walk is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Saturday for kids and adults. $1 raffle tickets are sold throughout the weekend for the chance to win a 2013 Ford Mustang, and a silent auction will be held as well.

Admission and parking is free.

The Sweet Corn Festival runs 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the St. Jude Parking Lot at 50 Edgewood Road NW, Cedar Rapids. For more go to Judes.org.
