Two area music teachers are showing their students ways to bring the music outside of the classroom. Cory McBride (drums) and Than Chesher (bass) are both music teachers in the East Buchanan School District in Winthrop and members of local country and classic rock band Stampede.
On Friday (8/10) the entire band will wrap up their summer concerts by performing close to home at the Riverwalk Park Band Shell in Independence from 5 to 9 p.m. This event is free and family friendly.
Part of Independence’s Friday Night Live series, this event will include plenty of activities for the kids and their parents as well, such as best dressed cowboy and cowgirl contests, largest belt buckle contest, classic tractor show and a lasso demonstration.
The band is also celebrating a full year of performing together. They were on hiatus for nearly two years before reforming in early 2011. The rest of the band includes Michelle Reck (keyboards and vocals), Travis McBride (Guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, vocals), and Zach Thein (lead guitar). Both Michelle and Travis are currently students at the University of Northern Iowa.
