Hoopla and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance have partnered to provide a weekly list of highlighted cultural and arts events in the area. Below are the hidden gems happening within the next week. Find these and more events from the alliance here.
August 16: The Coralville Parks & Recreation Department invites you to come enjoy the final show of Music in the Park with the Collectible Boys. Get out the lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a family night out Thursday at S.T. Morrison Park from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Have a seat, relax, and enjoy great local music! Music in the Park is brought to you free thanks to US Bank and the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
August 16 – 18: Brucemore’s Cabaret in the Courtyard featuring: Courtyard Jesters is Thursday – Saturday. The ambience of the Visitor Center courtyard will be transformed into a cabaret club with tables, chairs, twinkling lights and stars on the stage and in the sky. Four local comedians and well-known performers—Jason Alberty, Tim Boyle, Leslie Charipar, and Meg Merckens—will entertain audiences with stand-up comedy, improv, and humorous song. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $20/adult and $18 for Brucemore members. Patrons are encouraged to bring their favorite beverages (no food). Parking is available on the grounds. All tickets at the gate are $25, if available.
August 17 – 19: The Starlighters II Theatre in Anamosa presents Brigadoon. Brigadoon tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that appears only for one day every one hundred years. The enchantment is viewed by the villagers as a blessing rather than a curse for it saved the village from destruction. Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to be celebrated. Their arrival has serious implications for the village’s inhabitants. Tickets are $16; shows are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
August 19: Enjoy vino and live music from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. with BF Burt at Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery in Swisher. Bring your friends, lawn chairs and blankets for a Sunday afternoon of relaxation in the beautiful countryside. There is no cover charge. Wine, beverages and delicious local food will be available for sale.
