There are a couple races on Oct. 27 offer runners the chance to run along with monsters, instead of away from them.
The Muddy Monster will take runners through an off-road course starts and finishes in scenic Seminole Valley Park and runs through Ushers Ferry Historical Village in Cedar Rapids. Registration costs are $10 to $27. Costumes encouraged for the 15K run (9.3 miles), 5K run/walk (3.1 miles), Monster Mile (17 & under) and a Lil’ Monster fun run. The Muddy Monster is a professionally managed event and is USATF sanctioned. Races start at 8 a.m.
Another race is a collaboration between New Bo City Market and Theatre Cedar Rapids. In conjunction with the market’s opening on Oct. 27, the two organizations will hold a 5K Fun Run/Walk called The Costume Run. A $30 registration fee includes the race, swag bag with race shirt, ticket to a showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and a TCR cup. An additional $60 will include food, beer, wine and a $20 certificate to spend at market vendors. Register by Oct. 15 for a guaranteed t-shirt size.
The race starts at 4 p.m. on the stage at the theater and follows a path downtown that is focused on the trail, including Greene Square Park, along the river and features a stretch that runs through the Circle of Ash haunted house (with the lights on). There will be an activity of sorts approximately every kilometer or five times along the course. Credit will be given for all activities completed and each credit will count as an additional chance in the drawing of prizes. Prizes will also be awarded for best times and best costume (individual and group).
