Each week Hoopla and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance team up to showcase arts and culture events in Eastern Iowa. Below are the hidden gems for this week.
Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas…come hear the Eastern Iowa Brass Band perform their Christmas Concert this Saturday, December 15, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon District Auditorium. Lisbon fifth and sixth grade band students will be featured soloists. The concert will include many traditional Christmas songs such as “White Christmas” and “Veni Immanuel,” as well as some new arrangements and some old favorites – with a brass band twist. A cookie reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $10/adults, $4/students and will be available at the door.
A Christmas Carol returns as the newest holiday tradition for City Circle Acting Company in Coralville. Join Ebenezer Scrooge through a life-changing journey as he learns what it means to be human. This faithful adaptation of Charles Dicken’s beloved classic story comes to life with bold acting, daring design and new special effects. Let the spirit of Christmas enter your hearts as you listen to the timeless carols. Shows are December 14, 15, 21 & 22 at 7:30 p.m. and December 16 & 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $12-$27.
Iowa Theatre Artists Company in the Amanas invites you to join them for the Bluegrass Herons Acoustic Christmas Concert! Bring your friends and enjoy great bluegrass Christmas music played by the Bluegrass Herons & Friends. Don’t miss this heart-warming annual holiday event! There are only three performances: December 14 & 15 at 7:30 p.m. and December 16 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students.
The Cedar Rapids Public Library invites you to White Lights Holiday Music Series: Joan Jacob & Bob Colby Saturday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. Joan Jacob and Bob Colby share their talents on the flute and clarinet, presenting holiday music to delight the audience. The concert is free and open to the public. This is the third installment in the long-running White Lights Holiday Music Series presented by the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
Bring your family and friends to celebrate the holiday season with Orchestra Iowa as their Holiday Spectacular returns to the Paramount Theatre. Join Maestro Hankewich and the area’s finest musicians for this festive concert that is sure to put you and your family in the holiday spirit. Holiday Spectacular showcases the Carillonneurs Handbell Choir, Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale, Orchestra Iowa School’s Discovery Children’s Chorus, Preucil School Espressivo Strings, and guests Kimberly Roberts (soprano), Ric Swann and Tiernan Sullivan. Performances are: Saturday, December 15, 2:30 & 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 16, 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20-$50.
