The event was conceived by the two organizations last year as a way to celebrate the market’s grand opening, highlight the cultural corridor developing along Third Street from downtown to the New Bohemia Main Street District and create a chance for those of us who will never be on stage to get a little dramatic for the day by donning a costume and getting goofy at spots along the course.
So it seemed like a natural choice to join with NewBo and TCR for this year’s run. It’s an event — a collaboration by these two groups, which are both testaments to all that is going right in our community – we’d love to tell you about anyway.
But this year, we have a reason to celebrate something else too — our FIFTH birthday.
Five years. That’s how long we’ve been around. And we’re still here because of you.
So we’re throwing ourselves a little party.
We’ll celebrate — you, us, TCR, the market, Cedar Rapids, life — after the Costume Run at NewBo City Market (which is celebrating its FIRST birthday) on Oct. 26.
- Celebrate Hoopla’s 5th birthday with the Costume Run on Oct. 26.
- 4 p.m.: Run starts at Theatre Cedar Rapids.
- 4:30 to 8 p.m.: Live music at NewBo Market
- 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Activities, free treats for our fans and friends. Run participants get their first drink on us!
- 5:30: Award ceremony
The run starts at 4 p.m. at Theatre Cedar Rapids. You can still register for the early bird price through Oct. 16. Find registration details over at Theatrecr.org
Plan to arrive early, in costume and run out the front doors of the theater at 4 p.m. The course will wind around downtown through a couple of fun activities loosely tied to this year’s season at TCR (Jesus Christ Superstar? Why not get your picture taken with Jesus? You get the picture).
Make your way to the market, where there will be live music (Jordan Sellergren, The Signifigance of Simon and South East Side Effect) starting at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
Hoopla will be there when you get there to welcome runners with a cold drink and help keep the party going after the run with other activities.
We’ll also have free sweet treats for all of our fans and friends, whether you participated in the run or not (although, you really should run or walk. Really.).
Awards start at 5:30 p.m. There will be prizes for completing the entire course, costumes, being fast, etc .. And the music will continue until 8 p.m.
So, as they say — we’ll meet you at the market.
