National stars with local ties continue to blaze the stage at Jazz Under the Stars each year.
On Thursday, University of Iowa graduate Elsie Parker brings The Poor People of Paris and a cache of musical riches to Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids.
The folks at KCCK radio were so blown away by Parker at the 2011 Iowa City Jazz Festival that they snagged her for their own outdoor summer concert series. Parker, who lives and tours out of St. Louis, specializes in popular French music, typified by Edith Piaf and Michel Legrand.
The Poor People of Paris have been featured on French TV and have performed at “Piaf’s” in San Francisco. Sounds like their life is in the pink — la vie en rose.
Elsie Parker & The Poor People of Paris perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids. For more information, go here.
