The fifth annual Landfall Festival of World Music comes to Cedar Rapids Sept. 19-22 and features over 50 musicians from 10 countries including Brazil, Portugal, Sweden, Tunisia, China and Mexico.
Locations this year include CSPS Hall, Opus Concert Café and the African American Museum of Iowa. Saturday’s free line-up will be at Greene Square Park in downtown Cedar Rapids.
“This is one of our most diverse and exciting line-ups ever,” Legion Arts executive director F. John Herbert said. “The typical Landfall artist is extremely skilled in their particular tradition, which they spend a lot of time and imagination updating. This year the mix of influences is more volatile than ever: Tunsia’s MC Rai blends Algerian raï music with hip-hop while China’s Hanggai shows a clear affinity for American cowboy songs.”
