CEDAR RAPIDS – Sauce Boss (Bill Wharton) plays a swampy Florida blues with his band The Ingredients while cooking up a huge pot of gumbo, which he eventually serves to the crowd.
He also dishes up R&B tunes, roots-rock, swamp pop, Delta blues, calypso and zydeco music. He’s coming to CSPS in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, and he’ll be cooking up free gumbo at a local homeless shelter.
In 21 years of performing, he’s fed more than 180,000 people for free. Jimmy Buffett loves his tasty musical brew so much he wrote “I Will Play for Gumbo” in honor of the Sauce Boss. His songs “Let the Big Dog Eat” and “Great Big Fanny” even appear on the Buffett compilation album, “Margaritaville Cafe Late Night Menu.”
