Could it be? Yes, it could. Something’s coming, something good. And we no longer have to wait. The first national tour of the 2009 Broadway revival of “West Side Story” is coming to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines for eight performances, beginning Tuesday. It’s the classic Romeo & Juliet story of love and loss, set to music in the 1950s and updated with just enough modern touches to let the timeless tale speak to today’s audiences. The Jets still fight the Sharks, Tony still pines for Maria, but some of the dialogue and lyrics are done in Spanish. Sounds like they’re finding a new way of living, while preserving the songs and dances that forever changed the face of Broadway musicals.
