IOWA CITY – Zeds Dead, but the duo’s sound is not. This up-and-coming electronic music duo from Toronto is bringing the bass to Iowa City. Musicians DC and Hooks combine the intensity of dubstep and electronica with a passion for “dig-through-the-crates” hip-hop sampling.
The result defies genres, presenting something for all music lovers. It’s not the duo’s first foray into music. They hooked up in 2004 and formed Mass Productions, releasing the indie album “Fresh Beetz” in the summer of 2007. Two years later they launched their second collaboration, turning up the bpm and aiming the bass-lines at the dance-floor.
And their new name? You’ll hear it in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 flick, “Pulp Fiction.” Just in case that question ever turns up in Trivial Pursuit.
Zeds Dead - 8 p.m. Nov. 28, Main Lounge, Iowa Memorial Union, 125 N. Madison, Iowa City; $25, (319) 335-3041 or Scope.uiowa.edu
