Rihanna is being investigated by federal officials for illegal tattooing because she administered her own tattoos to a set of tattoo artists at New York’s East Side Ink Wednesday night, MTV reports.
A spokesman for New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene told MTV that “Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City’s Health Code. We are sending someone to follow up on this.”
If charged with tattooing someone without a license, TMZ reports Rihanna would face about $2,500 in fines for all three artists she reportedly tattood.
In a week of strange deaths and very odd stories (especially when you factor in the amount of gruesome stories involving fireworks that will sprout this weekend), this is just about the craziest one I’ve seen because I’ve never heard of a celebrity tattooing other people. It seems like quite a difficult skill for a beginner to master (drawing with a needle) and one that carries a rather lengthy penalty if the tattooer screws up.
On top of all that, MTV has evidence of Rihanna tattooing at East Side Ink last night, so expect a slew of mainstream stories about this in the coming days because she’s going to be charged.
