After Edie Britt’s departure from Wisteria Lane, it was clear that Desperate Housewives needed in a fresh face to stir things up.

That’s why the newest woman on Wisteria Lane will be Drea de Matteo, the actress who played Adrianna (Christopher’s fiance) on The Sopranos. EW.com reports that the Emmy-winner will be a series regular next season, playing the mother of a young Italian family who’s new to the neighborhood.

Though I no longer watch Desperate Housewives, I think this is a really cool piece of casting because Matteo’s a great actress who made Adrianna seem like a real person, while some of the other characters didn’t (specifically Janice).  Maybe I’ll start watching again when the new season starts up in the fall.
