The producers of recently-canceled NBC show Southland are seeking a revival from, in essence, any cable network that will broadcast their show
According to a LA Times report, the Southland producers aren’t picky, but it seems like TNT is the main target because they already have several procedural dramas and a solid relationship with Warner Bros.
This would be the reason why TNT would pick up the show…
While “Southland” certainly would be a good fit on TNT, it remains to be seen if the network would want to buy someone else’s castoff. With six episodes of “Southland” already in the can, TNT may be able to negotiate a decent price, and since Warner Bros. will already be getting paid for those shows by NBC, it might be willing to cut a slight break on the license fee. Then, if the show were a success for TNT, it could ask for more money. NBC was paying about $1.5 million per episode for the show, people close to the production say. That is not a huge fee for a cash cow like TNT.
The LA Times reports that A&E has already passed and USA Network is out of the question because it’s owned by NBC, which just canceled the show. That leaves AMC, which has two strong staples on its network (Mad Men and Breaking Bad).
Stay tuned for more news on whether AMC or TNT picks up Southland.
