what to watch for: stanley breaks out on the office

Posted on 30 January 2009 by e.vandril

This Sunday’s Super Bowl-edition of The Office will be one of the strongest in the history of the show, according to several reviews I’ve read about the hour-long episode.

The way it does this, and breaks out of the hour-long funk that it’s been in throughout the series’ history at the same time, is by focusing on a single character.  Not Dwight, Pam or Michael.  But the lesser-known Stanley.

Here’s the review, from Newsday

Bottom line: It’s brilliant, and I do believe it lifts the curse – with some exceptions – that seemed to bedevil hour-long “Offices” of years past, notably ‘07 when it began with a whole slew of ‘em. What’s key about this episode is the fact that it revolves around a storyline involving Stanley Hudson - the saturnine grump whose miserable outlook on life and work is forever stoked and justified by Michael…

It’s weird. I’ve always been really into the NFL, and especially into the Super Bowl, but I’m really uninterested in this year’s game.  Maybe it’s because of all the hype surrounding the game, the teams involved or the boring storylines.  Or maybe it’s because I’m more interested in seeing the new episode of The Office, which will feature Jack Black and Jessica Alba.

I don’t know what my problem is, but it simply doesn’t seem like this year’s Super Bowl matters.

Anybody else feel the same way?
