jessica simpson new poster girl for heavier ladies

Posted on 29 January 2009 by e.vandril

I take it that everybody reading this has at least heard about Jessica Simpson’s appearance at a chili cook-off in Florida a couple days ago.

(If you haven’t here’s what happened: Simpson showed up, was about 10-25 pounds heavier, some pictures were taken and then she left)

The fallout from the incident has been pretty crazy.  Everyone was really shocked that a celebrity would put on that kind of weight, especially one like Simpson, who seems to have capitalized from her toned figure throughout her career. So, I guess there was a mixed bag of reviews on her new figure.

Now, MSNBC is calling her the possible poster-girl for weight-ism.  Which is a bit confusing, I guess.

Some liked it (Kim Kardashian being the biggest supporter of Simpson’s weight gain).  Most didn’t (mostly the sports blogs that like to post bikini pics of Simpson).

I must say, I fall in the former category.

I like meat-ier women.  Not too fat, but not Kate Bosworth-skinny.  They turn me on.  I think the media’s fascination with bodies like that is scary for those celebrities, and for people who look to them as an example of what they strive to be.

I know that argument’s thrown out there often, but I really hope that more celebrities to put on a few pounds, like Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian.  The only thing I wish is that more talented American celebrities would do so, in order to show that one can get ahead by working hard at their craft.

And not just because they have huge boobs (Simpson) or a huge butt (Kardashian).

What do you think?
