Hilary Duff has signed on for a multi-episode arc on the upcoming season of Gossip Girl, The Hollywood Reporter writes.  Duff will play “a movie star looking for a typical college experience” at NYU, where she will attend school and be roommates with Vanessa, played by Jessica Szohr.

Gossip Girl spokeswoman, Melissa Burton, said Duff will eventually start dating Dan Humphrey, Vanessa’s best friend.  This is a big deal because Dan was once the love interest of Vanessa before she was introduced to the show after moving to Brooklyn and it figures to spark some animosity between her and the rest of the upper-Eastsiders.

Season 3 of Gossip Girl begins on Sept. 14, with Duff’s role starting on Oct. 5.  Be sure to tune in if you’re a fan of the show.  And if you aren’t, this is one of the few TV shows on right now that is consistently entertaining.  So I’d advise you to use what’s left of the summer to catch up on the upper-Eastsiders.
