The gang at Cedar Ridge Winery has put down their hammers and are raising a glass this weekend to help celebrate the grand opening of their newly constructed winery and distillery. The 7,050 square foot facility (that also includes a 2,500 square foot veranda) will be officially open to the public just in time for the holidays. Pints and Pigskins: Cedar Rapids Piano Lounge

Posted on 21 October 2009 by tracy.mccullough

pianolounge

It’s week seven Monday Night Football fans! Monday’s game brings us a game between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles.

This week brings us to the Cedar Rapids Piano Lounge, 208 Second Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids. The Piano Lounge has an outstanding Monday Night Football deal — so good, that we just couldn’t pass it up.

The Piano Lounge is a great weekend spot for live music and martinis, but it’s definitely not a sports bar. Last year’s flood completely submerged the Piano Lounge and they took advantage of their rebuilding efforts by building a game room in the space next door. The game room has another full bar, along with several dart boards and pool tables. The Piano Lounge has only five 36” HDTVs, but they also have a giant projection TV in their Wii room.

pianolounge2You can win this room for a private football party for your group. This is part of the outstanding Monday Night Football deal which sucked us in. Not only do they offer $5 pitchers of Budweiser products, but each pitcher purchase earns two raffle tickets. These tickets are used for two things: A drawing held at the end of each Monday night game to have a private football party in their Wii room for the following Monday and the grand prize of two tickets for the Dec. 28 Vikings/Bears game in Chicago. Chicago is going to be freezing in December, but the free tickets will keep you toasty. The grand prize will be drawn Dec. 14; must be present to win.

The Piano Lounge doesn’t serve food, but they were more than happy to let us bring in pizza. I will definitely be back for the Dec. 14 game to win my tickets.

dirtbag

Bring out the noise. The Picador’s throwing a party. And not just any party. One big b-day bash, in fact, as The Picador marks its third year in the Iowa City music scene.

The entire weekend is dedicated to celebrating, and they’ve lined up some of the best acts in town — Tanks, Naked Hasselhoff, Snow Demon, The Manimal Orchestra and Shores of the Tundra to name a few. Thursday night is an East Coast vs. West Coast dance party featuring a battle of DJ Coolzey and Mr. Boogie Man. And their gift to you: it’s free!

Camp DIRTBAG

10 p.m. Thursday (08/20), 9 p.m. Friday (08/21) and Saturday (08/22), Free, The Picador, 330 E. Washington St., Iowa City, www.thepicador.com

This 11 piece Latin-jazz dance band is an Iowa City favorite. Don’t forget your lawn chair, or better yet dancing shoes. Olé!
