scarlett johansson close to joining ‘iron man 2′

After Emily Blunt reportedly was forced to pull out of negotiations to join Iron Man 2 because of a scheduling conflict, Scarlett Johansson is allegedly very close to joining the cast as The Black Widow for the much-anticipated sequel, EW.com reports.

Blunt, the actress from surprisingly-enjoyable The Devil Wears Prada (I saw it three weeks ago on FX and enjoyed it more than I thought I would), joined Jack Black and the rest of the cast of Gulliver’s Travels two weeks ago.  But because Gulliver’s and Iron Man 2 film during the same time, Blunt has had to turn down the much-coveted role of Russian spy Natasha Romanoff that Johansson now seems to be the front-runner for.

your weekly box office results

With its star-studded cast and romantic comedy potential, He’s Just Not That Into You topped this weekend’s box office by pulling in $27.5 million.  It took the top of the box office from Liam Neeson’s Taken.

In my opinion, the cast and the comprehensive marketing of the film put it over the top.  I mean, just look at the following names in the movie: Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long.  I probably missed someone, but that is a monster cast.

For He’s Just Not That Into You‘s relationship-intensive genre, that cast is like the Nicholson-DiCaprio-Wahlberg-Damon-Sheen-Baldwin cast on The Departed.  So don’t be too shocked by HJNTIY‘s performance this weekend.

The thing that surprised me about this weekend’s box office was the strong performance from Taken, which took down $20.3 million.  I’ve heard nothing but good things about the movie – Liam Neeson allegedly punches every person in the movie, besides his wife and daughters, three times in the head.  Which is gold in my book.

But is Liam Neeson still a box office action star?  I didn’t think so, but it appears I’m wrong.

That’s the movie out right now that I really want to see.

woody allen misses out on everyman’s fantasy

During February 3rd’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Penelope Cruz said that before her big on-screen kiss with co-star Scarlett Johansson, Woody Allen rushed to the doctor’s office to have a suspicious mole looked at.

Guess what?  Allen missed the kiss.

On the day I had to kiss Scarlett Johansson, all his attention was on this freckle on his hand. He decided he had to leave the set and get it looked at, because the end of the day would be too late. It was good because it divided attention.

Allen didn’t simply wait until the end of the day to get the freckle checked out because he’s a hypochondriac.  Penelope Cruz admitted that she is, as well.

But the most interesting thing about the interview, in my mind, was that Cruz says that she is attracted to other hypochondriacs.

“My family and my friends think I’m a hypochondriac. I think I am a little. And when I hang out with another person like me, I have an attraction to that. I want to know all of their fears and obsessions.”

I consider myself a little bit superstitious and whatnot – not necessarily a hypochondriac – but complicated.  Yes, let’s classify it as complicated.  But the interesting thing is that I have this same thing as Cruz.  I think people with fears and obsessions are the most interesting people to talk to at parties; Besides, of course, drug addicts.  Drug addicts have the absolute craziest stories you will ever hear.

Don’t become one though, kids.  Drugs are bad.

Scarlett Johansson recently admitted that all of the success in her career is due to hard work and luck.

“I wanted to make movies since I was three years old, so I guess my perspective on it is that I was more than surprised by success,” Johansson told moviehole.net.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have had success, because I’d seen and I know so many talented people that never get the opportunity. But I am a big believer that putting in the actual hours is kind of what makes a successful career and a lot of luck too, of course.

I’ve noticed a common theme among actors – most feel really lucky.  Because, at the end of the day, they need a great screen writer and a great director to make a great movie.  Their job is to basically take what’s on the page, and then bring it to life.  In some examples, that’s a really complex and difficult thing to do.

Take Heath Ledger’s The Joker example – I’ve seen The Dark Knight about 10 times, and there’s always something new that amazes me about his performance.  The most recent thing is that his fingernails are really long.

You see this with other performers – Johnny Depp is an actor whose movies you can watch over and over and continue to pick up on certain things.  But there aren’t many out there who stand out.

It’s with this type of ownership of a character – something that Ledger, Depp and a few others have – that sets movies apart, but often everything has to be perfect for an actor to be perfect.

beckham and westwick meet in the bathroom

David Beckham was a hero of Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick since he was a kid growing up idolizing Manchester United in England.  Because of this, Westwick was shocked when he met one of his idols in, where else, but a bathroom.

“I was at this ball in New York that was so grand David Bowie was sitting at the next table and shook hands with George Clooney,” Westwick told UK Magazine Reveal. “Then I went to the toilet and there was David Beckham. I couldn’t say anything, I just ran out. A friend tried to persuade me to say, ‘Hello,’ but I couldn’t do it. It was ridiculous.”

Of course, this is Reveal reporting the news, so this Westwick-Beckham story could be completely false. In fact, I’m pretty sure it is because who says that they go to a ball, which they later describe as grand.  The Brits don’t do that.

Anyway, I would like to meet my idol Scarlett Johansson in a bathroom.  Who would you choose?

scarlett wants to be less sexy

Scarlett Johansson recently opened up and said that she wants to be less-sexy so that she can take on more substantial roles.

“I look forward to growing in the industry and ageing in the industry. A lot of actresses take their meatiest roles in their thirties and forties. And I’m looking forward to that,” the actress told The Times.“I’m at a little bit of a funny age where I get that ‘sexiest woman’ thing, and it feels like a label for right now. But maybe when I get older, it won’t be like that.”

We’ll see, but all I have to say is that Lost in Translation was a really good movie.  So if she wants something meatier than that, then, well, OK.  I’m fine with that.

In the meantime, keep doing your thing Scarlett, you make men around the world smile.

scarlett johansson’s tissue sells big

On a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Scarlett Johansson was sick, but had to promote her new film The Spirit. So, she had some fun with her situation – her Sam Jackson cold, as she called it.

So she blew her nose alongside Jay Leno, and said that she would post it on eBay and give the money to her favorite charity.

Well, the Johansson tissue-auction is up, and her used Kleenex has sold for $5,300.

Proceeds from the auction go to USA Harvest, which helps distribute food to the hungry.

A lot of people are going to talk about this auction in terms of the world-wide recession, but I say if someone has $5,300 to burn and wants to donate the money to charity, why wouldn’t they get something back for it?

Even if it is a used Kleenex.
