Iowa-native Shawn Johnson, the 4’9″ Olympic gymnast that captured the hearts of America (but thankfully gave them back), has joined the cast of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, the network announced Sunday night.

Guess what, Iowa readers?

Johnson is the heavy favorite to win the competition and another piece of hardware back to the great state of Iowa because of her extensive background in gymnastics.  Specifically, the floor exercise.

Johnson’s competition does not seem to be as tough as previous years.  She will go up against Steve-O, Denise Richards, Lil Kim, Belinda Carlisle, Jewel, Jewel’s husband and rodeo star Ty Murray, Lawrence Taylor, David Allen Grier, Gilles Marini, Nancy O’Dell and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The contestants’ dance partners will be announced later this week.
