It’s that time of year again. The magnolias are flowering, the morels are popping and Benz Beerfest is upon us.
For those of you not counting, this is the ninth annual Beerfest and it promises to be a great one. The event is held rain or shine.
There are 1,500 tickets available for this year’s fest and attendance will probably be about that. This is a huge growth from the first year where 150 passionate and enthusiastic craft beer aficionados got together to drink a couple of beers.
- 9th Annual Beer Fest
- Benz Beverage Depot
- Saturday, May 11, 2013
- Tickets: $15 in advance and $20 at the door
- Ages 21 and up
The growth is a testament to the thriving craft beer scene in Eastern Iowa and serves as a great kickoff to the start of Craft Beer Week Saturday (5/13) to May 19 throughout the United States.
At Beerfest, expect most of your favorite local, regional, and national breweries to have a booth either in the Benz parking lot or on the closed off section of Seventh Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets SE.
The Surf Zombies’ surf rock will provide a great soundtrack to the day and Braise will have food on hand to soak up the beer. Braise, which has been catering in the corridor for a few years, recently opened up a cool, little speak-easy lunch spot inside Benz Beverage Depot.
One of the great things about this beer fest is that, in most cases, if you like what you are sampling, you can go right inside the store and purchase a bottle of it to take home to enjoy outside the fray of a beer festival.
So enjoy the beers and food and music Saturday. Sample responsibly, drink lots of water, and give cheers to great beer.
